Bartlam porcelain at Christies

For those of you that missed it, a complete piece of Bartlam chinaware was auctioned off at Christies last year.  It was a beautiful teabowl with blue and white design.  Images can be seen here:

The price realized was $146,000.  It was one of only two located anywhere in the world.  Hopefully there will be more pieces that surface now that we know what they look like!

  1. Have you noted that there is currently a saucer attributed to Bartlam on display at the "Made in Americas" exhibition at the Winterthur Museum? I wonder where it came from! I can't find any scholarly sources on it.

    1. Hi Annie. Made in the Americas is an exhibit curated from collections (and loaned pieces) at Boston MFA. The Bartlam tea cup and saucer, discovered by an English porcelain dealer several years ago, is now in the collections at Boston. Check out the 2007 Ceramics in America article on the original Bartlam research. If you go to the Winterthur website and search for John Bartlam, it brings up an article in Antique Magazine that gives you a sliver of information about the exhibit and the teacup. Scholarly articles may be forthcoming. I'll put links up as I find them.
      Thanks for the heads up!
